Gordon Murray Automotive will reveal a new limited-run supercar later this week – and it could take inspiration from the legendary McLaren F1.

Founder Gordon Murray will lift the covers off the latest model from the firm’s Special Vehicles division on Friday, as part of a display at The Quail, a part of Monterey Car Week in the US.

The new car will follow the Le Mans GTR and S1 LM, both of which were inspired by the McLaren F1 GTR, for which Murray was responsible for in the mid-1990s.

One of the five S1 LMs that are due to be built recently sold at auction for $20.6 million (£15.2m), breaking the record for the most expensive new car ever to go under the hammer.

A teaser image released by GMA leaves much imagination, but it appears to be a more road-focused take on the S1 LM.

It shares that car’s rear haunches, distinctive door-mounted air ducts and roof scoop but lacks its large rear spoiler and aerodynamic addenda.

Given the S1 LM paid tribute to the F1 GTR, a more reserved version would pay tribute to the road-going F1 – often regarded as the greatest supercar of all time. 

Murray said only that the new supercar will be “something very special”.

It will be displayed alongside the Le Mans GTR and several examples of the T50, GMA’s debut supercar, powered by a 664bhp V12.
