Friday, Sep 22, 2023 9:44 PM
Ineos Automotive said Friday that the first Ineos Grenadier built for the North American market rolled off the assembly line Thursday. The Scottish White Ineos Grenadier Fieldmaster Station Wagon is the first of more than 7,000 orders on Ineos’ books from American consumers, which are slated to reach the United States by November, and Canada by January 2024.
“The start of production for North American vehicles is a significant moment for Ineos Automotive,†said company CEO Lynn Calder. “We have been ramping up the production rate over the last six months to ensure we can deliver to customers as quickly as possible, while maintaining the world-class quality standards we set for ourselves.â€
Developed with help from BMW and automotive supplier Magna Steyr, Ineos Grenadiers are built at a former Mercedes-Benz plant in Hambach, France. The new body-on-frame SUV is built using aluminum and steel on a ladder chassis and is engineered to last 30 years. It’s so tough, you can stand on its bumper, fenders and hood. You can even camp on the roof; it holds up to 750 pounds while stationary, and up to 300 pounds while on the go.
The Ineos Grenadier is available in base, off-road-oriented Grenadier Trialmaster and fancier Grenadier Fieldmaster trims. To make repairs easier, many of its parts are off-the-shelf, such as the driveline. It consists of a BMW turbocharged 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder engine and eight-speed ZF transmission rated at 282 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The Grenadier is equipped with a Tremac transfer case, Eaton differential lockers, and Brembo brakes. All-wheel drive is standard. And it’s capable, boasting a 35.5° approach angle, 36.1° departure angle and 10.4 inches of ground clearance
Still, you’ve probably never heard of Ineos. With $65 billion in yearly revenues, 25,000 employees, and 39 operations in 31 countries, privately-held Ineos ranks as the third largest chemical company in the world and serves as Ineos Automotive’s corporate parent.
Ineos Automotive came to life in 2017, when Sir Jim Ratcliff, CEO of Ineos and a passionate 4×4 fan, lamented the original Land Rover Defender’s demise in favor of a more sophisticated SUV. While sipping a beer at The Grenadierpub in London, Radcliffe decided to build his own new old-school SUV, forming a new corporate division to do so.
Ineos sales and service will be found in in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah; and Washington.
“We have spent a long time selecting an exceptional team of experienced dealers and are excited that we will soon be able to announce them and begin guiding the Grenadier station wagons home for our customers,†said Greg Clark, Executive Vice President Americas for Ineos Automotive.
