Chinese newcomer Lepas is going after the Volkswagen ID 4 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 with its first UK-bound EV, the L6.

The electric SUV has a 65kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack that yields a range of 279 miles between charges and can be topped up at up to 120kW. That allows a 30-80% refill in 22 minutes.

The L6 is powered by a single front-mounted motor that puts out 214bhp and 203lb ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph sprint time of 7.9sec – par for the course.

Effectively a rebadged version of the Fulwin T7 sold by Lepas parent company Chery in its native China, the L6 is based on the LEX platform. This is a rebranding of the T1X structure that also underpins the popular Jaecoo 7 and Omoda 5, among several other models.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but the L6 is likely to be distinguished by its standard equipment offering rather than undercutting rivals.

It will have a 13.2in infotainment touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof and '540deg' parking camera as standard, and the range-topping Elevate trim will bring heated and ventilated front seats.

Order books will open early in the fourth quarter, Lepas said. As such, customer deliveries are likely to begin just before the end of the year.
