Fisker has released a teaser image for its new electric SUV, which the automaker says will boast a fully electric driving range of over 300 miles and a price of under $40,000.

The new SUV, which is designed by Henrik Fisker himself, is described as “a truly high-volume, affordable yet desirable EV.” Its twin electric motors, one mounted at each axle, enable all-wheel drive and an 80 kWh battery pack provides an estimated driving range that can rival Tesla Model Y’s long-range battery pack.

Henrik Fisker is famous for his forward thinking, progressive designs and this unnamed SUV stays true to his portfolio of work. The company says it “features captivating design touches that have been traditionally reserved for supercars in the past,” but with only a teaser image of the front end available, it’s not entirely clear what these exotic features entail.

The SUV will also have a standard front radar, enabling various active safety and semi-autonomous driving functions, along with an interior that gives off “an extended open-air atmosphere.” We’re expecting the cabin to stay true to current design trends in the EV space – in other words, it will probably feature a large tablet-style center display, a digital driver’s display and soft touch materials throughout. Fisker says a large head-up display will also be present – take note, Tesla.

Fisker says its first SUV will be built in the United States is expected to go on sale in 2021. Once the SUV is launched, Fisker will turn its attention to the production version of the Fisker eMotion concept – which featured a prototype solid state battery with a theoretical driving range of over 500 miles. The SUV will be mass market model, while the eMotion will be a low-volume, high-performance vehicle with a much higher price tag.

Fisker is not to be confused with Karma Automotive – which was formed when Chinese conglomerate Wangxiang Group bought the bankrupt Fisker Automotive and its assets and renamed it. Karma Automotive is expected to debut an updated version of the Revero (formerly the Fisker Karma) at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show next month, along with two other mystery vehicles that will represent its future product strategy.
