This time last year, Audi revealed its first series-production electric vehicle. Sort of. The e-tron was still wrapped in camouflage at the time. Now, again at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Audi has debuted the Audi Q4 e-tron concept, the brand’s fifth electric model.

The new electric Q4 will get a pair of motors offering 301 hp. That’s enough power to move this compact crossover to 60 mph from a stop in 6.3 seconds. It’s limited to 112 mph in an effort to help ensure top speed range isn’t overly reduced.

The 82 kWh battery is fitted under the car between the axles. It offers up a range of more than 280 miles on the WLTP cycle. The Q4 e-tron is based on the new MEB Volkswagen Group electric platform.

The concept is a look at the production car that’s expected to be introduced at the end of next year. By then, Audi will have four other electric models on sale, including the e-tron Sportback and the China-only Q2L e-tron.

Audi says the Q4 will be in the “upper third of the compact class.” At 181 inches long, it’s about eight inches longer than the Q3. But with no transmission tunnel, Audi says it offers more space than one would expect given the footprint.

Audi is planning the production Q4 e-tron to debut at the same time as the production e-tron GT, so we can expect to see both in the second half of next year. Audi will offer 12 all-electric models by 2025.
