Audi Q4 E-tron gets more efficient motor – and round steering wheel

Audi Q4 E tron facelift 2 Squared-off helm is swapped for traditional wheel as electric crossover gets fresh look inside and out

The Audi Q4 E-tron has been refreshed with a longer range, quicker charging and a fresh look inside and out.

Its new 'APP350' motor is said to be 10% more efficient than the previous 'APP310', boosting range by around 19 miles for rear-wheel-drive Q4s or roughly 10 to 20 miles for dual-motor, four-wheel-drive variants.

This means the longer-legged, rear-driven Q4 E-tron Performance is now capable of driving 359 miles between charges, up from 338 miles previously, while the coupé-roofed Sportback Performance can do 368 miles compared with 347 miles previously.

The four-wheel-drive Q4 E-tron Quattro can go 347 miles in SUV form, while opting for the Quattro Performance cuts range to 336 miles.

The new motor produces either 201bhp or 282bhp in Performance spec, while the dual-motor, four-wheel-drive Quattro models get outputs of 295bhp and 335bhp.

The range-topping Quattro Performance can now be charged at up to 185kW, an increase of 10kW.

Visually, the updated Q4 is differentiated from the existing car by its reworked front lights and ‘singleframe’ front grille. The daytime running lights now offer a choice of four different graphics, which can be changed on the fly, while the grille is now colour-matched to the body.

Inside, the Q4 gains the curved display cluster introduced with the A5, Q3 and Q5, with an 11.9in digital instrument panel and a 12.8in infotainment touchscreen. A 12in passenger touchscreen can be added as an optional extra.

The squared-off steering wheel found in previous Q4s has been swapped for one with a traditional round rim – and it drops haptic sliders in favour of physical scroll wheels.

Meanwhile, the physical climate controls have been removed in favour of a touchbar on the infotainment screen.

UK pricing for the new Q4 has yet to be announced, but it's expected to rise slightly over the current car, which starts at £47,355 in SUV form and £48,855 as a Sportback.Â
